Description: Preliminary Park Master Plan. A preliminary concept was prepared, in collaboration with Architect's Collaborative of Spencer, and presented to an involved committee of Jackson's parks and trails. Based on feedback from the committee, the preliminary master plan and plaza plan were completed. The plans feature a naturalistic park and new open areas along the Des Moines River. Plots of native prairie, trails, benches, picnic areas, improved access to the river, and trees were incorporated to connect an already impressive park and trail system. Memorial Plaza, appropriately named during the process, includes an elevated stage and seating area incorporated into a berm of native prairie grasses with enhanced views to the river. The project will proceed as the acquisition of land and funding allows. |
